Twenty-seven paddlers in 20 boats made this year’s Sweetheart Paddle one of the most successful ever. The group paddled the Nehalem River from Vernonia to Big Eddy at 450 cfs–an excellent level for providing good current. The weather was fantastic and the trip was actually on February 14th. A big thanks to Mary Ann Jordens for organizing.
This was my third time on the Coweeman and all I came away with was video of the one major pool drop rapid. The river is pretty continuous when it’s running, with lots of surfing opportunities. Hence, I never end up filming it. This drop is called Cable Drop and this is how it looks at 1700 cfs. Nine members of the LCCC’s finest run it.
This video is a little out of order. The club did the Narrows on January 10, but it took me a while to get around to putting this together. Level was 1530 cfs. The trip became an impromptu birthday celebration for Murray Johnson, who organized the trip.
