The slalom river game is coming to the Clackamas river, August 29 and 30. The event will take place on class 2 water below Roaring River Rapid, mile post 41.5 on Hwy 224.
A gaggle of ‘gates’ consisting of 2 poles will be hung from wires above the river. The object is to pass between the two poles without touching them, and pass all the gates in the shortest period of time. There will be gates that must be passed traveling downstream (green gates), and gates that must be passed traveling upstream (red gates).
The shortest line through all the gates from start to finish is not always the best, or quickest route. Each paddler must find the best route for their boat. This is often done by watching and consulting with other paddlers. Kibitzing is part of the game.
